Tong Jianing

Tong Jianing (b. 2003, Shanghai, China) lives and studies in Venice. She began her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 2021, obtaining her first-level academic diploma in Painting in 2024. She is currently enrolled on the two-year specialist course in Painting at the same institution.

Her artistic practice mainly focuses on traditional oil painting on canvas. She often starts from personal photographs, exploring unconventional compositions and perspectives. Her current research focuses on the relationship between physical and psychological space, with particular attention to perception and non-verbal expression. She represents everyday spaces to explore the connection between environment and memory, while using the body to express emotions and psychological states. Through formats such as polyptychs and visual micro-installations, she explores what lies beneath social language and the relationship between the individual and space.
