ARTIST
He Meiqi
Chinese artist based in Venice, Italy.
He Meiqi’s practice explores the relationship between the body, perception, memory and identity. She focuses on the everyday body and the connection between its visible appearance and a person’s inner life. Working primarily in oil painting and mixed media, she translates personal experiences, memories and sensations into images through colour, mark-making and observation.
Artist statement
For He Meiqi, the body is more than a subject to represent: it is a space where personal experience, memory, vulnerability and everyday emotions meet. Observing its small details, she investigates the distance between what is visible externally and what remains invisible within. Painting becomes a space of observation and transformation, exploring how experiences and memories remain in the body and change over time.
